Inter is a variable font family carefully crafted & designed for computer screens. The typeface features a tall x-height to aid in readability of mixed-case and lower-case text.

It takes a lot of effort to develop a font. While creating Inter, Figma designer Rasmus Andersson found out that the font can greatly facilitate the reading of text on computer screens. Rasmus came up with the idea for Inter while working on the Figure.

We used Roboto as the main font and ran into its limitations. It was originally created to work as a font for headings and longer blocks of text, such as paragraphs. But the Roboto font was poorly readable if it was used in a small size.
